Classes and Workshops
Everybody is born to be creative! We all began by expressing ourselves through finger-painting or doodling with crayons or chalk on sidewalks or the family room walls. Maybe you have always secretly wanted to try your hand at painting again. At The Art Spirit, we believe art is for everyone! Making art is a way to bring the freshness of creativity into your world. We are here to help you on your journey
If you've ever wanted to paint, here is a class that offers the perfect introduction for everyone. After the first few classes where we learn the fundamental skills, you will be well on your way to enjoying all that being creative brings into your life. And you will be picking up your brush with confidence in no time!
This class also serves a refresher course for intermediate level students where you can also pick up some new tips and tricks.
For the first couple of classes, I will supply your materials for a $5 fee. Then I will provide you with a supply sheet so that you can assemble your own kit. Or I will have kits you can purchase with everything you need to get started at lower than retail prices.
If you're on a budget, you'll be happy to know that you can create an entire watercolor painting with very few materials.
Fee: $150 for six week course
January 11, 18, February 1, 8, 15, 22
If you have to miss a class, you may come to one Open Studio at no cost.
Open studio is just that— a time set apart at The Art Spirit for you to come in and paint with us at your leisure. Many of us don’t have a space at home which is convenient for setting out our materials and working on our art without being disturbed.
Also who doesn’t like the camaraderie of doing a favorite thing with others who are like-minded? It’s stimulating to get together and learn and share our creativity. We learn techniques in class, and then we need to practice skills which will take our painting to a new level.
Plus I will be on hand to support and mentor your efforts. At each session I may present a new technique or skill, and we can practice it together. Or you can work entirely on one of your own subjects or projects, with guidance from me if you desire it.
Coffee and tea will be available in a pleasant “café-like” atmosphere with atmospheric music playing softly in the background. Art books will be available for you to leaf through, and videos will sometimes be shown to foster your growth in certain skills.
Artists of all levels are welcome to join us in the Open Studio sessions. We just ask that you reserve your place in advance by email or text because the available spaces are limited. See Contact page for info on how to send me a message. You may text to see if a spot is available up to a half hour before the session begins.
Fee: $10 per hour - $15 for a 2 hour session
Tuesdays 2:00-4:00, Thursdays, 6:00-8:00, Saturdays 11:00-1:00 (unless a workshop is being held on Saturdays)
